Speaking from personal experience there have been quite a few members of my family who have sadly passed away, some were expected, and some were an absolute shock.

It is really difficult to deal with grief at the best of times, but when you suddenly loose somebody really close to you, it is so very painful.

Unfortunately for me 2006 was an awful year as sadly as well as loosing my precious mum, my father in law and my husband’s grandmother also passed away. It was a really awful time and now 3 years on I am still nowhere near getting over loosing my lovely mum.

It is peculiar, but sometimes even now when the telephone rings, I still think it’s going to be mum ringing me to tell me some gossip about my sister or brother or one of their kids. We used to have such a giggle, and even though she could be strict, she was always fair with it. I couldn’t have asked for a nicer mum and if I had my time all over again with her, I wouldn’t change one single thing.

A short time ago my sister got hitched and although we had a wonderful day, it was always going to be tinged with sadness that our mum couldn’t be with us all.

I caught up with my sister a few weeks after her wedding and as we were talking about things, she told me that she had worn some of mum’s jewellery on her wedding day and I told her that I had too.

Mum owned some beautiful silver bracelets and her collection of silver rings was absolutely amazing. For me though her silver necklaces are the most precious and I always try to make sure I wear a different one each day. It makes me feel close to mum at all times, and always proud to have been her daughter.

Sharp edges. Many toys that you might not consider to be a risk can have sharp edges that are potentially harmful. It is quite common for children to roll around with their toys or run with them, making it very easy to be caught by a sharp edge and even cut themselves badly.

Small parts. This is probably the most well known hazard of childrens toys. Because of their inquisitive nature, children often put small things in their mouth and can sometimes swallow or even choke on them. Sometimes toys don’t have small parts on first inspection, but break up easily due to weak materials and these are equally, if not more dangerous.

Chemicals. Whether it is dangerous chemicals in plastics, harmful fluids in toys, or simply toxins in the paint that they are decorated with, kids can be seriously harmed by inconsiderate materials. Thankfully most toys are tested thouroughly for dangerous chemicals, but some will always slip though the net.

Mechanical Hazards. Many toys appear perfectly safe, but are made potentially dangerous by their ill-though out functioning parts. Good examples of this are toys that have springs or elastic band actions that can release unexpectedly and can potentially harm the eyes. Additionally, toys sometimes have dangerous hinges or gates that children can trap finger in.

All toys and Christmas gifts should comply with the health and safety regulations of their respective countries, so next time youre buying gifts for her or him look out for the endorsement logos on the toys label first.

The worst thing about Christmas has to be shopping for everyone and picking gifts for each person. Then once you’ve managed to find what you want, you have to wait in line to pay. All this while being knocked about by crazy customers running past in an attempt to get the last item on the shelf. That is the reason why thousands of people will do all their Christmas shopping online this year.

Although you may have alleviated some of the stress by shopping online, you still must choose what to buy each family member. One of the best things you could buy this year would be a gadget, they have become so popular over the last few years and are still a must have.

• PSPGo. Another handheld now, this time from Sony. This new PSP is smaller and lighter than previous models. The biggest change for the new PSP is that no discs are required. All the games are downloaded and stored within the internal hard drive.
• Tony Hawks Ride. This upcoming game from Tony Hawk will change the way we play skating games. The game features a skateboard shaped Wii Balance Board style controller which brings you the gamer into the game itself.
• Logitech’s New G19 Gaming Keyboard. Logitech are the master of all PC gaming items. The recently released gaming keyboard from Logitech, the G19, completely owns the previous G15 model. With a new LCD colour display, new G-Keys, plus customer lighting across the board, the G19 gaming keyboard is the master of gaming equipment.

Most of those don’t come cheaply. If you’re on the hunt for some lower priced gadgets, you can still find some great gadgets at resonable prices. Gadgets like digital photo albums plus LED shower heads are great fun to have. If you are looking for something more practical, binary clocks are great gifts.

The high volume demand is still being enjoyed by the giants of the industry such as Amazon, whose wide variety of products on sale make it easy for consumers to buy anything from white goods, and electrical products to clothing and books.

There are many markets out there with items that when first thinking of you wouldnt think to buy for a close relative at all. I can remember when I was younger, and living at home, the hot water bottles were a functional item that went unseen for most of the year. Rubber ducky. Baths should come with a rubber duck in them as standard. Its still the best selling bath toy around and its easy to see why. Squirters.If your rubber duck comes without a water squirter then its worth getting a separate one. Most kids loving playing with water guns and squirters and if they can do it in a safe and suitable place, no one gets annoyed. Its also a great method to get your child clean and its always a bit of fun getting squirted and they won’t object anywhere near as much as they do when you try and sponge them down. Just fill up the squirter and give them a good wash down with it.

Sticky numbers. There can often be more to bathing than just playing. Kids learn best when they are relaxed and enjoying themselves so its good to have plenty of learning toys or educational toys to use in the bath as well. There are a variety of toys on the market that can be used in water, one of which are the big inflatable letters. The best choice though are the foam sticky numbers. They were often made to actually fit inside a cabinet. It would have the appearance on the outside of an ordinary piece of furniture but when it was opened it revealed an impressive dolls house with many rooms. On the inside there would be furniture all scaled down to size and the craftsmanship was of the highest standards.

The dolls which were usually made of wood or wax are extremely collectible toys today.

Antique wax dolls were usually made by pouring melted wax into a mould. Wax does’nt really seem to be the best material for making dolls but they were less fragile than bisque or china and it could be tinted to give the doll a beautiful and realistic skin tone.

It is often quite difficult to accurately date these dolls because they were hard to mark and the only way they could do this was by labelling them.

It was in the 19th century that “baby houses” began to be known as dolls houses and were often found in nurseries of the children belonging to wealthy families.

They were often furnished with exquisite needlepoint rugs and couches upholstered in silk. The furniture was more often than not made of fine wood and was accurately cut down to scale.

By the end of the 19th century the dolls were made of bisque and glazed china. The attention to detail was astounding and often the dolls were even equipped with their own gloves, purses, fans and even sewing kits! This made them very easy to personalise and the accessories became very popular gifts for her.

In recent times plastic and metal dolls houses were introduced but it is the amazing craftsmanship of the early “baby houses” which have stood the test of time that will remain firm favourites with miniature collectors today.

Unfortunately it would seem that both the bathroom and kitchen have reached the point of no return and now a total revamp is probably going to be required.

The question is where is the best place to start? At the moment there appears to be a vast amount of kitchens and bathrooms available. Should you just go for the wow factor, maybe choose a traditional theme, or perhaps go for a modern style?

Another important consideration when revamping any room is accessories. Ethical kitchen accessories can make or break a room. They have to enhance the room and blend in with the style you have chosen for your kitchen. The bathroom is a bit of a simpler room to decorate. Bathroom accessories are pretty easy to mix and match or change periodically.

The problem we will have is by decorating both the kitchen and bathroom our lounge is going to look a bit old and tired. Probably we could just invest in some ethical homeware. Having these would certainly brighten up the room and would not have to cost a fortune. With all this going on at home, it looks like it is going to be a busy couple of months ahead.
